Light

  • Tolerant of low to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
  • Ideal for homes or offices with limited natural light.

Water

  • Water infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems.
  • Water thoroughly when you do water, ensuring the water drains out of the pot.

Soil

  • Use well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for succulents or cacti is a good choice.
  • Avoid soil that retains too much moisture, as this can lead to root rot.

Temperature

  • Prefers average room temperatures (65-75°F or 18-24°C).
  • Avoid placing near cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizer

  • Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Use a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

Repotting

  • Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
  • Use a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one.

Additional Tips

  • Clean leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and help the plant breathe.
  • Prune any yellowing or damaged leaves.
  • Be patient. ZZ plants are slow growers.

Common Problems

  • Overwatering: Can lead to root rot.
  • Underwatering: Can cause leaves to droop or fall off.
  • Pests: Rarely a problem, but watch for mealybugs or scale insects.

Important Note: ZZ plants are toxic if ingested, so keep them away from pets and children.
