Light Requirements

Sawtooth coriander grows best in partial shade to bright indirect light. Unlike regular coriander, it does not enjoy harsh full-day direct sun, especially in hot regions. Too much direct sunlight can cause leaf burn and early bolting (flowering). Provide morning sun and afternoon shade, or grow it under a 30–50% shade net. Indoor growers should place it near a bright window with filtered light.

Temperature
This is a heat-loving tropical herb. Ideal temperature ranges from 20–32°C. It thrives in warm, humid weather and struggles in cold conditions. Growth slows significantly below 15°C. In cooler regions, grow it in containers so it can be moved indoors during cold spells. Frost will damage or kill the plant.

Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Sawtooth coriander prefers evenly damp soil because its leafy growth depends on steady moisture. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. In hot weather, daily or alternate-day watering may be needed, especially for potted plants. Good drainage is essential — soggy soil can lead to root rot.

Soil Mix
Use a rich, well-draining soil mix. A good blend includes garden soil, compost or vermicompost, and cocopeat or sand for drainage. The soil should retain some moisture while allowing excess water to escape. Organic matter improves leaf production and flavor intensity. Avoid heavy clay soil unless amended with compost and coarse material.

Humidity

Feed every 3–4 weeks with a mild organic fertilizer or a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Nitrogen-rich feeding promotes leafy growth, which is desirable since the leaves are harvested. Compost tea, fish emulsion, or diluted seaweed feed works very well. Avoid heavy chemical feeding, which can reduce flavor quality.

Spacing and Pot Size
Sawtooth coriander forms a spreading rosette. Space plants about 20–25 cm apart in garden beds. For containers, choose a pot at least 15–20 cm wide. Wider pots work better than very deep ones because the root system is moderate but spreads sideways. Ensure drainage holes are present.

Pruning and Harvesting
You can begin harvesting once the plant has several mature leaves. Cut outer leaves at the base using scissors, allowing the center to continue producing new growth. Regular harvesting encourages bushier growth and delays flowering. Do not remove more than one-third of the plant at a time.

If the plant sends up a tall flower stalk, leaf production will slow. You can cut off the flower stalk early to extend leaf harvest. However, letting it flower will produce seeds for propagation.
